Date: Monday 18 to Friday 22 of August 2025
Location (Course 1): Department of Mathematics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India
Location (Course 2): Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India
Description of Course 1: Mathematical modeling
Introduction to mathematical modeling of population dynamics is given by Dr. Takasu at Faculty of Science, NWU; ODE models in continuous time, Difference equation models in discrete time, Structured population dynamics such as reaction-diffusion models, lattice models, point pattern models, etc. will be ginve. Participants may work on numerical simulation using python.
Description of Course 2: Biomechanics
Introduction to biomechanics approach; kinetics (Motion analysis) and kinematics (EMG, Force plate) research methods, is given by Dr. Otaka at Faculty of Engineering NWU. Based on human biomechanics data [movement, force], we explore motor control mechanisms, and consider application in manufacturing and daily life that utilize such biological information.
Organization
The two courses will run in parallel with a series of lectures on 5 working days and a social event. A lecture (mathematical momdeling and biomechanics) is given everyday, tentatively scheduled to start at 15:30. After lecture, participants work on homework and exercises. Dr. Takasu and Dr. Otaka stay at JU in full during the programs and they are ready to supervise, discuss and socialize with participants. A social event will be organized to get to better know NWU.
