A Short Program on Mathematical Modeling 2025 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Exploring Mathematical Modeling 2025: Collaborative Program of NWU, UGM, UNY and UNESA
Update log (9 June 2025)
I am pleased to announce a short program on mathematical modeling: Exploring Mathematical Modeling 2025. This short program is joinly organized by Nara Women's Unviersity NWU in Nara, Japan, Universitas Gadjah Mada UGM and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta UNY in Yogyakarta and Universitas Negeri Surabaya UNESA in Surabaya, Indonesia. I do hope this program will be an excellent opportunity for Indonesian students and NWU students to learn about mathematical modeling in biology and to socialize with each other. (TAKASU F, 9 June 2025).
Date: Monday 8 to Saturday 13 of September 2025
Location:
- Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences FMIPA at Universitas Gadjah Mada UGM and at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta UNY in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
- UGM Auditorium A106-A107 (September 8-10), UNY Ruang Sidang 3 FMIPA (September 11-13)
Speakers:
- Prof. Dr. TAKASU Fugo at Nara Women's University, Nara, Japan
- Prof. Dr. Fajar Adi Kusumo and Dr. Nanang Susyanto at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
- Prof. Dr. Hartono and Dr. Nikenasih Binatari at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
- Prof. Dr. Abadi at Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Indonesia
Program description
In this program, we provide participants with a basic and an advanced introduction to mathematical modeling of biological phenomena with special focus on population dynamics. Topics on dynamical system including difference equations, ordinary differential equations: theory and application, partial differential equations, and stochastic dynamics, etc., will be given. In addition to lectures, participants will also work on exercises about numerical simulations and develop skills to solve mathematical models numerically using python. A certificate will be offered for participants who complete the program.
English is official language in this program.
Organization
The program will be organized with 6 working days (Day 1 through 6) with social events. On Day 1 through 5, lectures on mathematical modeling are given in the morning. In the afternoon, participants work on numerical simulation of the models they learned in the morning. Social events will be organized on Day 6 (Saturday 13) where NWU students and Indonesian students socialize with each other.
